GS_logoMISSISSAUGA, ON — April 14, 2011 — Survalent Technology, the most trusted provider of smart grid solutions for the control room, announced today that it has commissioned a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for Golden Spread Electric Cooperative Antelope Station.

Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Amarillo, Texas, provides electric service for its rural distribution cooperative members. Its 16 member systems serve more than 185,000 retail consumers located in the Oklahoma Panhandle and an area covering 24 percent of Texas, including the Panhandle, South Plains and Edwards Plateau Regions.

Antelope Station is a gas-fired power plant with18 nine-megawatt reciprocating engine-generator sets capable of generating about 170 megawatts. The quick-start generation technology allows the engines to achieve full operation in less than 10 minutes, whereas traditional gas-fired generation can take from one to four hours to start. The large amount of wind generation located in the Texas Panhandle was a primary reason for selecting this technology. As wind generation output varies with wind speed, Antelope Station will be able to quickly respond using the quick-start engines.

The new system features Survalent's open-architecture, dual redundant system based on Windows Server 2008. The system includes several of Survalent's open system applications, including: Event Data Recorder, Command Sequencing, and Inter-Control Center Communication Protocol (ICCP) IEC 60870-6/TASE.2.

"Reliable power delivery requires decisions based on real-time information," states Steve Mueller, President, Survalent Technology. "The Antelope Station project is a great example of how a customer-owned public utility can leverage real-time information to provide reliable electric service for its distribution cooperative members. Golden Spread has been a Survalent customer for more almost a decade, and we look to continue to provide them with excellent service and support long into the future."
