MISSISSAUGA, ON — June 15, 2010 — Survalent Technology, a leading provider of smart grid solutions to utilities, announced today that it has commissioned a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for Brantford Power Inc.

Located in southwest Ontario, Brantford Power serves approximately 37,000 customers’ power with more than 500 km’s of combined overhead and underground power lines. The new system will also monitor Brantford Generation (an affiliate company) new generator at the city landfill, and provide the generator data to Hydro One though Inter-Control Center Communications Protocol (ICCP) IEC 60870-6/TASE.2.
The new system features Survalent’s highly available, dual-redundant, open-architecture system based on Windows Server 2008. The feature-rich system incorporates many of Survalent’s open system applications, including ICCP, DNP3.0 LAN, and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
“Brantford Power opted to place their SCADA hosts in two different locations for disaster recovery,” states Paul Stripe, Regional VP Sales Canada. “This is a common trend we see with our SCADA platform throughout North America. If one facility is lost during a disaster, the system will automatically fail-over to the other SCADA host located in a different part of the city.”
