Longmont Power & Communications Honored with National Award for Reliable Electric Operations

In June 2006, Longmont Power & Communications (LPC) became one of only 64 public power utilities nationwide and the first in Colorado to earn Reliable Public Power Provider™ recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for providing consumers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service. “Receiving the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation demonstrates a utility's commitment to its employees, its customers and its community,” said John Humphries, general manager of Princeton , Ky. , Electric Plant Board and chair of APPA's RP3 Review Panel. “This is certainly an achievement of which to be proud.”

Washington Utilities Reduces Manpower and Improves Efficiency with SCADA System by Survalent Technology

Washington Electric Utilities had been running a VMSbased SCADA system since the early 1980s. By 2005, the contract with the old vendor was expiring, and the utility was looking for improved functionality and support. The staff wanted to modify and change the SCADA display screens, use more detailed and sophisticated graphics, and work with a Microsoft Windows interface. None of these capabilities were available from the previous vendor.
