Introduction

Survalent Technology is the premier provider of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems to oil/gas industries.

Solutions

Suncor Energy Canadian Pipeline Limited Partnership currently uses the Survalent SCADA system to monitor and control 17 oil and gas pipelines and 3 tank terminals operating both in Canada and the United States. Utilizing satellite, radio, fiber optic and leased line communications. The SCADA system sends and receives Modbus data from over 80 RTUs, PLCs and DCS systems over 25 SCADA communication lines. The SCADA system consists of dual redundant HP DS15 Alpha servers running the OpenVMS operating system. The control center currently has 3 operator consoles, each equipped with a Windows 2000 professional workstation with support for 8 – 20.1” LCD panels. The control center is manned 24 hours a day with at least 3 operators per shift operating the pipeline system.

The SCADA system operating software includes ODBC, NDA Client, Worldview, Qwindows, Transcription, command sequencing with templates and the Modbus communications protocol. Attached to the SCADA system is third party software the provides pipeline batch tracking, leak detection and daily production reporting. Also attached to the SCADA system is Survalent’s Websurv product that allows Internet and Intranet browsing of the Worldview displays, SCADA reports, third party reports, system and station alarms and the viewing of station analog and status points in near real time. Websurv is a “view only” product with no control and allows clients access to the same data as seen in the control center. Suncor’s Websurv product is currently configured for use by 50 – 60 users throughout the company.

Motor Oil Hellas (MOH) uses Survalent’s SCADA system to control the electrical system and generation for its state-of-the-art facility in Corinth, Greece.  The Refinery with its ancillary plants and offsite facilities forms the largest privately held industrial complex in Greece and is considered as one of the most modern refineries in southeast Europe.  The SCADA system is a dual redundant Windows Master and receives data from over 300+ Schweitzer IED's.

The system provides flexible, high-speed load shedding, generation and frequency control, voltage and MVAR control and power quality information to operations in order to help them keep the plant operating efficiently and cost-effectively.
