Among a growing list of South American utilities to adopt SurvalentONE to optimize network operations and reduce total cost of ownership
BRAMPTON, ON — February 15, 2018 — Survalent, a leading provider of advanced distribution management system (ADMS) software, today announced Compañía Energética de Occidente (CEO), a private electric utility headquartered in Popayán, Colombia, will use its ADMS platform to transform their power network operations. Going forward, CEO will operate an integrated ADMS consisting of SurvalentONE SCADA, OMS, and DMS for a comprehensive solution to serve 360,000 customers in the Cauca region in southwestern Colombia.
“The transformation that we’re embarking upon with Survalent will give us what we need to face the challenges of grid modernization, rising customer expectations, the increasing intensity of storms, and further regulatory oversight,” said Javier Torres, technical manager at CEO. “The ability to seamlessly integrate the SurvalentONE SCADA, OMS and DMS applications with our GIS, AMI and workforce management software will allow CEO to reduce operations costs, enjoy greater network reliability, and better utilize our assets. With this implementation, we will have complete, real-time visibility of our system.”
“The advanced functionality that the Survalent ADMS offers will deliver a range of benefits to us,” added Juan David Castaño, operations director at CEO. “Being able to control voltage levels and load disconnects, as well as proactively respond to different operating scenarios, will allow us to optimize our network. Additionally, the SurvalentONE FLISR application will give us the ability to rapidly identify and isolate faults, and automatically resupply power to as many customers as possible.”
CEO has been steadily expanding its use of SurvalentONE from an initial SCADA implementation in 2012, followed by a project that began in 2013 to incorporate DMS applications into their network. By doing so, they were able to detect and section faults, and reconfigure circuits in less than a minute from an average time of 30 minutes benefitting the utility’s 90,000 customers in the city of Popayán. More significantly, CEO saw their system average interruption index (SAIDI) fall by 34% in the first year.
“We’re pleased to hear of the benefits that CEO has realized and gratified that they’ve chosen us to help them accelerate their OT modernization plans,” said Steve Mueller, president and chief executive officer of Survalent. “This win demonstrates the confidence that innovative utilities have in our ADMS platform.”
