Operational Insight Increasingly Depends on Historical Data Speed and Scale

Modern utility operations rely on timely access to historical data for investigation, analysis, and planning. As the grid expands and the number of connected field devices increases, the volume and velocity of telemetry data also grow significantly. High-resolution measurements, frequent state changes, and longer data retention requirements create new demands that go beyond traditional historical dataset models.

In this environment, utilities need to investigate events quickly, analyze behavior across large datasets, and support extended playback without placing added strain on the core ADMS system. Fixed datasets and predefined sampling structures can limit flexibility, slow queries, and require upfront planning to anticipate future use cases.

As data-driven workflows expand across operations, engineering, and planning teams, utilities need a historian approach that supports high-volume ingest, rapid time-window queries, and analytics at scale—while continuing to support established reporting workflows they rely on today.

A Time-Series Model That Accelerates Analytics and Investigation

SurvalentONE Helix is Survalent’s time-series historian designed to extend historical data capabilities within SurvalentONE ADMS. It enables continuous capture of SCADA telemetry changes with minimal configuration—simply select the points to include and begin recording. By capturing meaningful changes using report-by-exception (deadband-based) filtering with sub-second resolution when supported by the data source, Helix ensures that operational events are not missed.

Built on a PostgreSQL-based time-series engine optimized for historian workloads, Helix supports high-speed writes, intelligent filtering, and in-database aggregation. This enables analytics and reporting queries to run faster over extended time ranges while reducing load on the core ADMS system. Optionally, extended playback is supported through the Offline Analysis Environment (OAE) for post-event investigation, while aggregation enables faster analysis without transferring large volumes of data to ADMS and reporting applications.

SurvalentONE Helix integrates directly with SurvalentONE SmartVU, STC Explorer, the SCADA Add-In, and the Offline Analysis Environment (OAE), enabling new high-volume and analytics-driven use cases while existing curated datasets and reporting workflows continue to operate as they do today.
